MonoDevelop

MonoDevelop is the IDE for the Xamarin Mono project. It was initially created as a fork of #develop.

It has its own site at  http://www.monodevelop.com/

We have an add-in to provide Cobra support including syntax highlighting, compilation and interactive debugging (debugging is not currently supported on Windows):

You can download preview builds at  http://monodevelop.com/files/MacOSX/trunk-builds/ which are sometimes in better shape than the last official release.

(2012-08-27) I think support for Mac users has improved and the official releases might be the way to go now. I don't have a Mac so I can't verify but if so then this section can be removed - nerdzero

(2010-11-13) I'm currently having my best experience with the 2010-10-26 build from  http://monodevelop.com/files/MacOSX/trunk-builds/ (The 2010-11-12 build was too buggy--couldn't even use File > Open.) - CharlesEsterbrook

(2009-12-03) Consider getting MonoDevelop at  http://monodevelop.com/Download/Mac_MonoTouch which reports itself as an RC. For some reason, the normal MonoDevelop download page is offering Beta 2 instead the RC.

Ubuntu Users

If you're on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and using MonoDevelop 2.8, you can either update to MonoDevelop 3.0 via this PPA:

Build the latest MonoDevelop from source:

Or you can download a snapshot of the 2.8 addin code:
