Cobra Future ?

Postby patmaster » Wed Mar 07, 2012 6:04 am

Hi,

I just stumbled upon Cobra and I'm very interessted and excited about it.
I saw that the last realease is from 2010 and so is the latest news on this page.

Is Cobra already "dead" ?

How could a language like that just die ? (If it really does what it promises)

Also did i understand this correctly...cobra is a compiled language ie i can compile directly to exe and such ?

Not dead, but the activity was scaled back for awhile and will be til April. More on that later.

People have been building and using it out of the source. See HowToInstallFromSource.

It can compile to .NET or Mono .exe. We leverage those VMs for their libraries, machine code gen, garbage collector, 3rd party libraries, etc.

There are commercial .NET linkers that will transform a .NET exe into a native .exe, although this is rarely necessary.

I see, well then I guess I'll get started :-)
It's a shame that this isn't more pupular, if it really does what's promised.
The TIOBE-Index doesn't even mention it...

It did hit the TIOBE-Index in the 51-100 section and was there for awhile. I believe they still query for it, but the reduction in activity in the past year has caused it to fall off. Things will pick up this spring and summer.
