I thought that was the default because I don't recall ever having to tweak my user profile. Also, the way the hit counts grow on the more recent topics lead me to believe people were seeing what I was seeing. Well then, I'll have to play with creating new accounts and seeing what happens.

Oh wait, I just got it. You meant within a topic; I kept thinking within a forum.

Other forums I use go in ascending order with a link to jump to the first unread topic. This also means you can read past discussions in a natural order. I'm not sure that I'll change the default, but it's nice to know that users can change it for themselves.
